Water breaking from a ship's wake is a familiar sight and sound across Vancouver Island. From April to October, it is not uncommon to see a luxurious cruise liner as part of the horizon, hovering over Victoria's Inner Harbour. Victoria is a popular port of call with local and international cruise lines and receives over 80 ships each cruise season. Smaller, pocket cruise ships also visit Nanaimo and Alert Bay.
Victoria is home to Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Esquimalt and is also a popular port of call for military ships. Canada's navy on the west coast is stationed at CFB Esquimalt and its role is to support the ships of the Canadian Pacific Fleet.
From the grandeur of a large cruise liner or the awe-inspiring size of a military ship to an intimacy of a pocket cruise ship, Victoria and Vancouver Island offer a warm welcome to passengers from all corners of the world. Passengers visiting Victoria and the Island are encouraged to spend some time exploring this website to discover the endless activities and adventures waiting for you in your port of call.
