Shellfish Regulations and Limits

  • Check the daily limits for all species of shellfish in the area you are fishing.
    http://www-comm.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/english/sfg/tables/shelltable.htm
  • You must have a licence to fish for shellfish. A licence is non-transferable and must be produced on request by a fishery conservation officer.
  • There are minimum legal size limits for most shellfish. Follow the regulations outlined for each species you are harvesting.
  • Check the guidelines for packaging and transporting your shellfish. When packaging crab, the carapace must remain attached to the body.

Be careful! Eating contaminated biotoxins in shellfish can be life threatening. Make sure you check to see which areas are closed due to PSP (Red Tide) by calling the Shellfish Information Line (604) 666-2828. This information changes frequently.
