Model Railways

Check out the Miniature World listing under Attractions, in our Business Directory, to find out more about one of the longest model railways.

Annual Model Railway Show
An annual model railway show is held in Victoria on the third Sunday of September at the Cedar Hill Recreation Centre. Local Victoria, Vancouver Island and BC clubs and model railway enthusiasts converge to make the show the Island’s largest model railway show and the second largest show in BC. The show features 18,000 square feet of models in every scale imaginable and often includes award-winning railways.

Victoria to Sidney Model Railway Club
This local club has proudly built two large models: a 52 by 28 foot HO scale and a 42 by 18 foot O scale. The club also has a highly-scenic display complete with a city, a mountain and a western town, permanently housed in its own room at Queen Alexandra Children’s Hospital. The kids are welcome to operate the train themselves and visitors can view the model by making prior arrangements with the club. Visitors are welcome to join the Victoria to Sidney Model Railway Club. Monthly meetings take place every second Friday of the month, at 7:30 pm, at Queen Alexandra. Contact President Dave Quissy at (250) 478-5109 for more information.

The Vancouver Island Model Engineers
This club boasts 30 to 40 one-twelfth scale models. The models are live steam trains and the club offers rides to the general public, on set dates. Call the Vancouver Island Model Engineers’ answering machine at (250) 652-7919 for a current list of dates. The trains are set up at the Saanich Historical Artifacts Society, 7321 Lochside Drive, and the club usually has five trains on site at any time. Children of all ages can ride 2,800 feet of track, by donation. A monthly meeting is also held at the schoolhouse at the same address, the first Thursday of each month at 7:30 pm, except July and August. Visitors are welcome to attend.
