How Tourism Victoria Helps Travel Media
Tourism Victoria’s Travel Media Relations Department is dedicated to developing positive and long-lasting relationships with travel media. Whether you are a freelance travel writer or feature writer, or represent a radio station or TV show working on a travel-related story about Victoria, we can provide assistance with your research or planning a visit. Your interest in our beautiful area is appreciated and our goal is to make our resources easily accessible to you.
In order to help us serve you better, please assist us by providing the following:
- as much notice as possible
- story focus
- planned arrival and departure dates
- how many people may be travelling with you
- any special needs or requirements
- letter of assignment or several examples of past work
- After your visit, please provide us with a copy of your resulting story
The Travel Media Relations Department offers a number of services to make it easy for you to experience our city, whether in person or by long distance through written and visual support materials.
Media Guest Progam
Get to know us! We can help coordinate a press trip so that you can personally experience the diversity of Victoria. Staff can coordinate local arrangements that may include accommodations, activities and media services. We do not provide per diem allowances. We are usually able to provide some hosted meals, but do not provide all meals to visiting journalists.
Itinerary Development
We will create full itineraries for participants in the Media Guest Program to ensure you meet the right people and get the information you need to make your story a success. Each itinerary is personalized to reflect your story focus such as Victoria city highlights, First Nations culture, outdoor adventure programs, Island cuisine and wine, and more.
Accommodation Assistance
We can arrange accommodation on a discounted or complimentary basis for you while on assignment in Victoria. Please note that holiday periods are extremely busy for us and our ability to assist you may be limited during these times.
Transportation Services
Generally, we cannot provide complimentary transportation to and from Canada, although we are occasionally able to provide transportation between the mainland and Vancouver Island. We can provide contacts for transportation services inlcuding airlines, ferries, motor coaches and rental cars. Attraction Passes
We can arrange admission to attractions on a discounted or complimentary basis.
Resource and Destination Information
A wide variety of reference and promotional materials are available to support your story. A full media kit is available on-line or as a hard copy upon request. We can also assist with specific research and information requests and fact checking.
Video, Slide and CD Distribution
We have an extensive image library of colour slides and high and low resolution digital images of area photos available on a loan basis for use in published articles. Please note that we also have an online image bank for your convenience.

Tourism Victoria can connect you with our tourism partners if your trip goes beyond Victoria. Let us know your plans and we will notify our colleagues of your interests.
