Sandcut Beach

A popular beach with Victoria and Sooke residents, Sandcut Beach is a 3.5km long cobbled beach which is part of the Jordan River Regional Park.

From the parking lot, follow the path for a short 400m hike through our coastal rainforest and old-growth cedars to the beachfront. Enjoy spectacular views of the Olympic Peninsula as you stroll the beach towards an impressive waterfall at the south end. The ease of access to this beautiful waterfall makes this one of Greater Victoria’s most Instagrammable locations.

The beach gets its name from the sandstone formations that have been eroded by the mighty Pacific Ocean. In these sandstone formations you may notice fossilized sea shells, which have been exposed due to the sandstone eroding over time.

Sandcut Beach is a great location for viewing marine life such as gray whales, humpback whales, orcas, eagles, and seals.

While walking the forest trail, pay attention for markers of the province’s historic logging history. During the late 1800s and early 1900s, loggers would use the springboard method for felling trees. These markings are still noticeable on many stumps throughout the forest.

Despite being located roughly a 1.5 hour drive away from downtown Victoria, Sandcut Beach is one of the region’s true gems and is well worth the drive. A popular destination, Sandcut Beach’s parking lot can fill quickly on summer days.
