Explore Nootka
100 Ouwatin Road, Tsaxana PO Box 459 Gold River BC V0P 1G0
The Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nation (MMFN) invites you to visit Vancouver Island’s largest outdoor adventure playground. The Nootka Region spans over 36000 km² from Strathcona Park’s picturesque Buttle Lake to the coastal shores of Nootka Island. It was on this shoreline in 1778 that Captain Cook first landed in what we now call British Columbia. Recognized as the Birthplace of BC, the Yuquot Historical Site offers visitors a glimpse into the past while immersed in one of Canada’s most pristine wildernesses. The stunning 37 km Nootka Trail meanders the coastal shores of Nootka Island’s spectacular giant red cedars, Sitka spruce, white sandy beaches, wolves, whales and eagles. Nootka Sound and its many tributary inlets offer access to world class fishing, ocean kayaking and Canada’s first Salmon Parks. Inland, you’ll find some of Vancouver Island’s tallest peaks, stunning trails, breathtaking waterfalls, whitewater adrenalin adventures and the astonishing Tree to Sea Drive and bikepacking circuit. The new Baymont by Wyndham Hotel in Gold River offers premium accommodation immersed in nature.
